INTRODUCTION / PURPOSE

As part of the citywide installation of a new fiber network by Allo, a central hub building is necessary to connect all the fiber. Presented for the consideration of Council is a land lease of 1,250 square feet of land that is currently owned by the City, located at 14950 Brighton Road.

STRATEGIC FOCUS AREA

                     Supportive, sustainable Infrastructure

                     Strong Regional Relationships and Partnerships

BACKGROUND

The City recently approved a new franchise agreement with Allo Cable Communications, LLC for construction of a new fiber network to be built throughout the City of Brighton. As part of this buildout, a small piece of land is necessary for a central hub to provide connections for all of the fiber.

STAFF ANALYSIS

Staff has identified an existing parcel of land, located on Brighton Road, that is owned by the City of Brighton that would ideally function for the purpose of the Allo land lease. This one acre of land, located at 14950 Brighton Road, was purchased in 1998 for the construction of several underground utility projects including culverts for the south outfall storm drainage project and a sewer line. There are no structures on the property and none contemplated. A small corner of the property that is not utilized is the perfect location to lease land for the Allo fiber connection. We are proposing to lease 1,250 square feet for installation of a small modular building. The lease is at a rate of $700.00 per month and is for the initial term of 10 years, and includes an option of Allo to renew for two additional 10-year terms. This land lease does not interfere in any way with the current of future use of this land by the city for utility purposes.

OPTIONS FOR CONSIDERATION

The City Council has three (3) actions it can take after reviewing this application. It may:

1.                     Approve the Resolution for the land lease

2.                     Not approved the Resolution

3.                     Continue the item to a later, specified date if the City Council feels it needs more information to make an informed decision.
