PURPOSE
Adopting a Resolution approving the naming of the Downtown Plaza located 5 South Main Street, Brighton, Colorado, “Founders’ Plaza”.

BACKGROUND
City Council has adopted a Resolution establishing a policy for Park Naming. The City Clerk has received two Park Naming Petitions for the naming of the Downtown Plaza located at 5 South Main Street, Brighton, Colorado. The two proposed names are “Gathering Plaza” and “Founders’ Plaza”. The Park and Recreation Advisory Board has reviewed the Park Naming Petitions and determined both have met all the requirements of the Park Naming Policy.
The Parks and Recreation Advisory Board held a public meeting on August 7, 2019 to solicit additional input on the proposed name. At the Park and Recreation Advisory Board meeting on August 7, 2019 the Park and Recreation Advisory Board unanimously approved a motion to recommend to the City Council that the Downtown Plaza be named “Founders’ Plaza”.
FINANCIAL IMPACT
The cost of the sign is included in Phase I of the Downtown Plaza Construction project.
STAFF RECOMMENDATION
Staff Recommends approval of the Resolution naming the Downtown Plaza as “Founders’ Plaza.”
OPTIONS FOR COUNCIL CONSIDERATION
1) Approve the Resolution to name the Downtown Plaza as “Founders’ Plaza”
2) Approve the Resolution with the name of the Downtown Plaza as “Gathering Plaza”
3) Not approve the Resolution and refer the naming process back to the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board to solicit additional names
