BACKGROUND

City Council has adopted a Resolution establishing a policy for Naming of Public Amenities and Park and Recreation Facilities. The Policy includes a procedure for selecting Names for Recognition on the Memorial Parkway. The City Clerk has received a Petition requesting recognition of Elaine Padilla for her service to the Brighton Community.  The Park and Recreation Advisory Board has reviewed the Park Naming Petition and determined it has met all the requirements for selecting a name for recognition on the Memorial Parkway as outlined in the Park Naming Policy.

At the Park and Recreation Advisory Board meeting on April 4, 2018.  The Park and Recreation Advisory Board unanimously approved a motion to recommend to the City Council that a plaque be placed on the Memorial Parkway recognizing Elaine Padilla for her service to the Brighton community.

Elaine Padilla exemplified the true spirt of volunteerism in Brighton.  She graduated from Brighton High School in 1964 and attended CU-Boulder, married Gel Padilla, and they raised their three children here.

Her involvement with youth included the Police Athletic League Wrestling Program, Girl Scouts, several parent advisory committees with the school district including the first bilingual committee, as well as sewing costumes for Brighton High School Drama.

Her Community involvement included work with the House of Neighborly Services, FISH (a volunteer counseling and referral service), and Meals on Wheels.  She served on the Platte Valley Medical Center Board of Directors including president of the Board.

Elaine was honored with: 9Who Cares, the Liberty Bell Award from the Adams County Bar Association and was Named Brighton’s Outstanding Citizen of the Year in 2004.
