Department of Parks and Recreation
Reference: Approving an amendment the Land Acquisition Service for AG Preservation Agreement
To: Mayor Gregory Mills and Members of City Council
Through: Michael Martinez, City Manager
Prepared By: Travis Haines, Director of Parks and Recreation
Date Prepared: May 12, 2022
PURPOSE
Requesting City Council approval of an amendment extending the term (the “Amendment”) of the Land Acquisition Services for AG Preservation Agreement (the “Agreement”) to allow for the closing of an in-progress transaction to occur, and giving the City Manager, or designee, authority to sign the amendment.
BACKGROUND/HISTORY
The City Council has identified the preservation of farmland in the south area of Brighton as a priority. In 2016 the Brighton City Council and the Adams County Commissioners adopted the “District Plan” that identified multiple ways to preserve farmland in the south area of Brighton. The Plan identified one of the main ways to preserve the farmland was for the City and County to acquire selected parcels of farmland. To assist in the acquisition of these identified parcels of land the City would secure the assistance of a firm that specializes in acquiring land for conservation purposes. The Conservation Fund was selected as the firm best meeting the evaluation criteria. In order to allow the City to secure the grant funding necessary to obtain the Property, the Amendment is necessary to extend the term of the Agreement, which is currently set to expire July 12, 2022.
FINANCIAL IMPACT
Sufficient appropriation exists for the project.
STAFF RECOMMENDATION
