To: Mayor Richard N. McLean and Members of City Council
Through: Manuel Esquibel, City Manager
Prepared By: Gary Wardle, Director Parks and Recreation
Date Prepared: April 14, 2015
PURPOSE
Approval of three ordinances to Lease three parcels of land in Brighton to Lloyd Land for farming.
BACKGROUND
The City of Brighton owns three parcels of land that are suitable to lease for farming. The staff has negotiated the terms of the proposed leases with Lloyd Land, a local farmer. Mr. Land is dryland farming most of the vacant land in and around Brighton. Previous advertising for bids to farm these lands has had little response. The following describes each parcel and the terms of the lease. All parcels have an initial 5 year term for the lease with an option to extend for an additional 5 years. Leasing the property for farming will reduce the requirement for the City to mow the weeds on these properties. A map of each parcel is attached.

1. K-Mart Property, located at Bromley Lane and Tower road is 31.4 acres, 26 farmable. Lessee to pay $15/farmable acre annually. Due to the condition of the land the lease payment will be waived for the first 3 years. Lessee to maintain property in an acceptable manor. City shall approve farming products. Income: $290/year. Lessee: Lloyd Land.

2. Tucson Property, located at 132nd and Tucson Street is 15.8 acres, 14.5 farmable. Lessee to pay $15/farmable acre annually.
