PURPOSE
To present City Council with an Ordinance for consideration amending Chapter 5 of the Brighton Municipal Code to authorize the operation and licensing of shared electric scooters in the City of Brighton.

BACKGROUND/HISTORY
City staff presented information to City Council at the March 8th Study Session regarding the introduction and use of shared electric scooters in the City of Brighton. City staff was contacted in December 2021 by Bird which is a dockless electric micro-mobility vehicle sharing company regarding the deployment of shared electric scooters for use in the City.
Following that presentation and discussion, City Council directed staff to prepare and present an ordinance, for City Council consideration to address the issues of licensing and operating of shared electric scooters shared electric scooters in the City of Brighton.
After researching several surrounding communities in regards to shared electric scooters and/or micro electric mobility devices, staff has prepared a proposed ordinance to address this issue.
The proposed ordinance would authorize the licensing and operation of shared electric scooters and micro-mobility devices in the City.
