PURPOSE
To seek the City Council's approval for the City of Brighton's potential purchase of real property and improvements located at 151 S. Main Street.

BACKGROUND
The City of Brighton is considering purchasing real property and improvements, located at 151 S. Main Street for $497,500 with the intention of establishing a permanent home for the Brighton Museum. This strategic acquisition supports the City's ongoing efforts to invest in cultural and historic preservation while enhancing the vibrancy of the Downtown area. The building, located adjacent to the 1886 Historic Church, also owned by the City, presents a unique opportunity to create a cohesive museum campus that can better serve the community and showcase Brighton's rich history.
Currently, the Brighton Museum is housed within Historic City Hall, a shared space that limits its ability to expand programming, displays, and storage for collections. Relocating the museum to 151 S. Main Street will provide dedicated space for exhibits, educational programming, and events, while also allowing for the adaptive reuse of the historic church to complement museum operations. This pairing will significantly enhance the museum's visibility and accessibility, helping to attract both residents and visitors to downtown Brighton.
This move aligns with the City's broader goals of Downtown activation, historic preservation, and community engagement. By creating a cultural anchor in the heart of Downtown, the new museum location is expected to drive foot traffic, support nearby businesses, and provide new opportunities for partnerships with schools, local organizations, and artists.
