STRATEGIC FOCUS AREA

Financially Responsible

BACKGROUND

Staff is requesting City Council approve a lease with Anna Frye, dba Boots and Shorty, for six months. This organization has been subleasing space at the Bromley Hishinuma Farm, a City-owned property located at 1594 E. Bromley Lane. The City recently terminated the master lease agreement with Bromley Hishinuma Local Foods Campus, LLC. Anna Frye would like to continue to lease the land and buildings, excluding the Migrant House, from the City through February 28, 2022.  This short-term lease will allow City staff time to prepare and issue an RFP for utilization of the entire property and will help defray the cost of utilities and other operating costs while the RFP process is completed.

FINANCIAL IMPACT

The rent proposed in the lease is $1,000 per month, maintenance costs of the property, electric/gas utilities and will reimburse the City for water, sewer and storm drainage charges incurred during this time period for three meters: the Main House (3/4”), the Migrant House (3/4”), and Irrigation (1 ½”).

STAFF RECOMMENDATION

Approve the proposed ordinance to help defray the cost of utilities and other operating costs while staff prepares and completes an RFP related to the entire property.

OPTIONS FOR COUNCIL CONSIDERATION

1.                     Approve the proposed ordinance as presented.

2.                     Do not approve the ordinance.
