PURPOSE

To finalize City Attorney Alicia Calderón’s 2023 performance evaluation, establish new compensation, and amend the current contract.

BACKGROUND

 

City Attorney Alicia Calderón was appointed by City Council on August 23, 2021. The City Council is tasked to conduct an annual performance evaluation.  

 

City Council decided to conduct a 360-degree evaluation process to evaluate the City Attorney’s performance from August 2022 through August 2023. The performance evaluation process will be managed by the Human Resources Director, Kevin Young.

 

Results from the 360-degree evaluation process were summarized and presented to City Council during executive council on August 1st, 2023, by Director Young. The City Council decided to retain City Attorney Alicia Calderón, increase her annual compensation by 10%, and accept two (2) changes to her current contract.

 

CRITERIA BY WHICH COUNCIL MUST CONSIDER THE ITEM

 

Annual evaluation performance agreed upon by City Council on August 1st, 2023.

 

FINANCIAL IMPACT

 

The approved budget for 2023 has sufficient funds to cover the increase in compensation.  City Council will set compensation based on performance evaluation. 

 

STAFF RECOMMENDATION

 

Staff finds that the process implemented by City Council was followed and is ready for Council vote.

 

OPTIONS FOR COUNCIL CONSIDERATION

 

1.                     Vote to accept performance and compensation and contract changes.

2.                     Vote to disapprove performance and compensation and contract changes.

3.                     Request further direction from staff.
