PURPOSE
Consider a resolution to approve Change Order No. 1 to the Contract with A-1 Chip Seal for the 2017 Chip Seal/Slurry Seal Project in an amount not to exceed $450,000.

BACKGROUND

2017 CIP Chip Seal, Slurry Seal, Crack Seal Patching project Bid#17-012 was approved by Council in March.

The oil and gas industry has become more prevalent within the city; the traffic associated with the industry tend to be heavier vehicles with greater impacts to the roadways than typical passenger vehicles.  Proceeds from the oil and gas industry to the City could be applied to the roadway maintenance activities; offsetting the impacts of the industry to the city’s roadways.

This request will authorize the Streets and Fleet Department to increase the amount of work possible through the program for street chip and slurry seal improvements, allowing additional areas needing pavement preservation to be addressed.

FINANCIAL IMPACT

The total amount of the change order requested is $450,000.

Original contract of $716,545 with A-1 Chip Seal/Slurry Seal currently encumbered will be increased by $450,000 for a total of $1,166,545.
