PURPOSE
A Resolution of the City Council approving the City of Brighton Business Plan for 2018-2019.

BACKGROUND
Beginning in late 2017 and continuing into 2018, the City Council engaged in a process to create a Strategic Plan and corresponding Business Plan for the City. This process is critical to the success of the City of Brighton in order to ensure that adequate resources and funding are provided for those items which are the highest priority to the City Council. This process started with the City Council identifying policy level priorities towards the end of 2017 and into the beginning of 2018. Subsequently, the City Council attended a two day strategic planning retreat on March 23rd and 24th, 2018 to refine their vision of Brighton for the future. The process was facilitated by Dr. John Nalbandian of the University of Kansas School of Public Affairs and Julia Novak of the Novak Consulting Group.
After the adoption of the strategic plan, the City Council in collaboration with City Staff developed corresponding initiatives for each of the eight focus areas in the Strategic Plan. Over the last several weeks, staff has facilitated conversations with the City Council to further refine the initiatives and the resulting Business Plan.
