PURPOSE

The purpose of this Ordinance is to amend the Brighton Municipal Code by repealing Article 1-27 related to public records.

BACKGROUND

The Colorado Open Records Act (CORA) in C.R.S. § 24-72-200, et. seq. governs the process, timing and obligations of the City of Brighton and provides the framework for the handling of open records requests. The Colorado Open Records Act is subject to amendment by the Colorado General Assembly, which has the potential to create conflicts with state law and could create confusion. Removal of this section of the Brighton Municipal Code will not affect the rights of the public to request records from the city.
