STRATEGIC FOCUS AREA

Financial Resilience

BACKGROUND

The City Council must adopt a resolution setting forth certain fees and charges for the City of Brighton each year. For 2024 there are only minimal changes proposed to fees relating to cleanup. In the Cemetery Fund fees for open and close of burial sites was updated to be consistent across type of burial. There was also movement of fees between the City Clerk’s Office and Finance Department to reflect where the actual collection of those fees is occurring.  The Business and Sales Tax licenses section was also updated to remove fees that are no longer charged and to clarify definitions for ease of use and understanding by businesses.

Staff is requesting the adoption of this resolution so as to allow staff ample time to communicate changes to the public prior to January 1, 2024. These recommendations were developed through close consultation between the Budget & Performance Team, and the departments charging each fee and reflect income necessary for continued levels of service as well as a review of fees and charges implemented by neighboring communities.
