PURPOSE
Requesting City Council's approval of the purchase of real property for Parcel Number 0156900022002, Lot 3, Kmart Distribution Center Subdivision Filing No. 1, Brighton, Colorado and authorizing the City Manager to execute all documents related to such purchase.
BACKGROUND/HISTORY
There are four parcels of land in between Southern Street and Bromley Lane between Tower Road and the Mile High Logistics Center also known as the Kmart Distribution Center. The City of Brighton ("City") currently owns two of these four parcels. The two parcels that the City of Brighton currently owns are Parcel #0156910301002, the northern most parcel, and the southwest parcel #0156900000018.
The City of Brighton Parks and Recreation Department is currently designing sports fields on the thirty-four (34) acre parcel of land at the intersection of Tower Road and Southern Street, the northern parcel. The City has negotiated a contract to purchase approximately seven-and-a-half (7.5), acres of land owned by SRZ Liquidating Trust, a successor in interest to the Kmart Corporation, Parcel #0156900022002. The City conducted an appraisal, and the contract price reflects the appraised value of $ 2.25 million dollars.
With the City Council's directive for Brighton to be a park and recreation destination, this parcel would provide the City with more opportunities for future expansion of recreation facilities, including but not limited to, sports fields.
