INTRODUCTION / PURPOSE
As part of the citywide installation of a new fiber network by Allo, an easement is necessary to connect all the fiber to a hub. Presented for the consideration of Council is a 10’ wide easement on property that is owned by the City, located at 14950 Brighton Road.
BACKGROUND
The City recently approved a new franchise agreement with Allo Cable Communications, LLC for construction of a new fiber network to be built throughout the City of Brighton. As part of this buildout, an easement is necessary to connect the central hub the fiber.
STAFF ANALYSIS
The city owns a parcel of land, located on Brighton Road that would ideally function for the purpose of an easement to allow Allo to connect their hub to the existing fiber along Highway 85. This one acre of land, located at 14950 Brighton Road, was purchased in 1998 for the construction of several underground utility projects including culverts for the south outfall storm drainage project and a sewer line. There are no structures on the property. We are proposing an easement to allow the fiber connection. This easement does not interfere in any way with the current of future use of this land by the City for utility purposes.
OPTIONS FOR CONSIDERATION
The City Council has three (3) actions it can take after reviewing this application. It may:
1. Approve the Ordinance for the easement
2. Not approved the Ordinance
3. Continue the item to a later, specified date if the City Council feels it needs more information to make an informed decision.
