PURPOSE

To provide updates to the Brighton Municipal Code to add the City Manager as a voting member of the board and to expand the basis for appointing non-residents who have significant ties to the City to the board.

BACKGROUND

The Brighton Housing Authority was established within the City of Brighton pursuant to C.R.S. §§ 29-4-201 et seq. and codified in the Brighton Municipal Code at Article 2-40, Housing Authority. The City of Brighton found a need for a housing authority to remedy unsanitary and unsafe dwellings and to work on projects to provide housing opportunities, repairing and renovating buildings, and acquiring land for projects. The Brighton Housing Authority has 455 units in its portfolio and assists approximately 299 families per month through housing vouchers.

The City Council discussed the Housing Authority board composition at the July 25, 2023 study session.
