PURPOSE

Requesting City Council’s approval for the procurement of 24-008592 2024 Transportation Preservation and Improvement Project by awarding a contract to A-1 Chipseal Co., deemed the most responsive and responsible bidder of the one bid received in response to the published solicitation, and approving the resolution giving the City Manager, or designee, authority to sign the contract. Per City Code Section 3-8-30(b): “All materials, services, and construction contracts, except as otherwise provided in this Article, with an estimated cost greater than five hundred thousand dollars ($500,000.00), shall be awarded through the formal solicitation procedure or the formal RFP process by the City Council. After due notice inviting bids, purchase orders and contracts shall be awarded to the lowest, responsive and responsible bidder.”

 

BACKGROUND/HISTORY

 

The City of Brighton Public Works Department conducts annual projects for street repairs and maintenance. The primary work will consist of areas for seal coats ranging from slurry seal to hot chip and including chip seal, subgrade preparations, pavement markings, milling, patching, striping, and all other work associated to complete the project. Additionally, the project consists of enhancing pedestrian and multi-modal infrastructure, improving curb ramps, adding bike lane striping and signage, and traffic calming features.

 

FINANCIAL IMPACT

 

Sufficient appropriation exists for the project.

 

STAFF RECOMMENDATION

 

Staff recommends that the City Council approve the request to issue and to award to A-1 Chipseal Co., as the most responsive and responsible bidder.
