BACKGROUND

The City Council Policy Regarding the Interview and Appointment Procedures for City Board, Commission and Authority Members was amended in 2022. The Policy addresses the processes for interviewing and appointing applicants to boards, commissions, and authorities. The City Council over time has changed which boards, commissions, and authorities may conduct their own interviews versus City Council conducting such interviews. In 2022, the policy was amended to allow a committee of two City Council members to conduct the interviews for the boards and commissions identified as being interviewed by City Council.

The redlined draft policy removes the Lodging Tax Advisory Committee, adds a requirement that the board or commission will summarize the applicant’s experience and interests for City Council when making a recommendation for appointment, and allows the City Council interview committee to reject a candidate or recommend appointment to another board or commission.
