PURPOSE
Requesting City Council approval of a resolution approving the placement of a plaque on Memorial Parkway recognizing Thurston William “Bill” Wallace for his service to the Brighton Community.
BACKGROUND/HISTORY
Thurston William “Bill” Wallace exemplified the true spirt of volunteerism and public service in Brighton. He was a local attorney who volunteered his time doing pro bono work representing the indigent and underserved. He was active in Toastmasters, the Colorado and Adams County Bar Associations, and at the First Presbyterian Church where he sang in the choir and served as an Elder. The Parks and Recreation Advisory Board, at their November 4, 2020 meeting, did unanimously approve the motion recommending to the City Council their support for the petition to place a plaque on Memorial Parkway honoring Thurston William “Bill” Wallace.
FINANCIAL IMPACT
The purchase and installation of the plaque, stone, and landscape of a memorial along the path in Memorial Parkway costs approximately $1,500 and will come from the Parks and Recreation capital fund. Funding is available yearly for projects of this nature.
STAFF RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends approving the resolution to place a plaque on Memorial Parkway honoring Thurston William “Bill” Wallace for his service to the Brighton community.
