Reference: Approving the Procurement of 23-008043 Adult Sports Complex Lighting
To: Mayor Gregory Mills and Members of City Council
Through: Michael P. Martinez, City Manager
Prepared By: Kyle Sylvester Assistant Director of Parks and Open Space
Date Prepared: 3/7/2023
PURPOSE
Requesting City Council’s approval of the procurement of Adult Sports Complex Lighting by awarding a contract to Musco Sports Lighting, LLC a company that has previously been awarded a Cooperative Agreement with Sourcewell utilizing competitive bidding methods, and approving the resolution giving the City Manager, or designee, authority to sign the contract.
BACKGROUND
The Adult Sports Complex (ASC) has been using the same non-efficient lights for over 20 years.
We are proposing to replace existing, less efficient, high output, halogen lighting with more efficient LED lighting. Lights at ASC are turned on for night programing, which is usually during United Power’s peak usage hours, 4pm to 10pm. New lighting will come with a 25-year warranty that covers all materials and onsite labor. We will recover the costs to install these lights over the term of the warranty period. Lighting will be brighter and directionally accurate to reduce light pollution outside the complex. Energy costs alone will be reduced by 50%.
Sustainability:
• Reduction of spill light and glare by 50% or more
• Reduction of energy and maintenance costs by 40% up to 85% over typical 1500W HID equipment
FINANCIAL IMPACT
Sufficient appropriation exists for this project. “LED Retrofits Adult Sports Complex”
