PURPOSE
Provide an overview of the recently completed Water Master Plan. This presentation is for informational purposes only.
BACKGROUND
Several years ago, the City contracted with Plummer to complete a Water Master Plan for the City. Plummer subcontracted with Brown and Caldwell, the design firm of the new Brighton Water Treatment and Softening Plant, to assist with water demand projections and other project features.
The project scope included creating a hydraulic model of the City's water system, calibration of that model using field data from fire hydrants and training staff to utilize the model. The scope also included analyzing the City's existing water distribution/storage system, modeling the future system based on population growth and recommending future improvements and capital projects. Lastly, the project took an in-depth look at the City's needs for a future water treatment plant to support continued growth, the location of the plant, the type of anticipated treatment processes and the source water to support the plant.
Due to the sensitive public safety and public health information contained in the Master Plan, the document is not for public consumption and, therefore, not included as an attachment. The City typically only provides detailed maps and information related to water assets to consulting firms.
The final step of this Master Plan process is for City Staff to ensure all recommended capital projects and their associated costs are accounted for in future budgets and long term financial models for the utility. Staff will complete this during the 2027/2028 budget development process.
