PURPOSE
To present a resolution to approve a donation to Ziebice, our sister city, in solidarity with Ukraine. The donation is to help with refugee assistance due to the ongoing war.

BACKGROUND

On March 8, 2022, City Council held a special meeting to declare on behalf of the City of Brighton solidarity with Ukraine. At the March 22, 2022 study session meeting, Councilmember Blackhurst proposed the possibility of showing support through the financial contribution to Ziebice, as they are impacted by the refugees due to the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine. City Manager Martinez and Mayor Mills both expressed support for this suggestion.

 

CRITERIA BY WHICH COUNCIL MUST CONSIDER THE ITEM

FINANCIAL IMPACT

$5,000 from the City Council Contributions general fund. This amount has been approved by the Budget team.

 

STAFF RECOMMENDATION

Staff recommends approving the resolution so we can make a financial contribution to participate with refugee assistance through our sister city.
