PURPOSE

To consider a resolution dedicating sales tax generated by marijuana store sales to public safety.

BACKGROUND

On August 15, 2023, at the Regular Meeting of the City Council of the City of Brighton, Colorado, the City Council voted 5-3 at first reading to approve An Ordinance Amending and Repealing Certain Sections of the City of Brighton Municipal Code and Enacting Sections Related to the Sale of Marijuana. Along with that vote, City Council provided guidance to staff that all sales tax generated by marijuana stores that would otherwise be directed to the General Fund should, instead, be dedicated to public safety. The proposed Resolution directs funds as requested by City Council
