PURPOSE
The purpose of this Intergovernmental Agreement (IGA) is to extend the service of the Adams County Household Hazardous Waste Program (HHW) to the residents of the City of Brighton, which will be administered by the Tri-County Health Department (TCHD) through December 31, 2018.
BACKGROUND
In 2018 the HHW Program will consist of one, 1-day collection event, allowing City of Brighton residents to dispose of their household chemical waste in a safe, legal and environmentally adequate manner. The implementation of this program benefits local communities as well as regional agencies. More specifically, the benefits are as follows:
Brighton Stormwater and Environmental Division:
HHW Program helps to reduce the number of illicit discharges into the storm sewer system.
Brighton Wastewater Division:
HHW Program helps to reduce the number of illicit discharges of hazardous materials into the sanitary sewer system.
Private and Municipal Waste Management:
HHW Program reduces the quantity of hazardous trash disposed of at the landfill.
County Health Department:
The HHW Program potentially reduces the number of cases of accidental child poisoning with household chemicals.
Fire Department:
The HHW Program potentially reduces the risk of household fires...
