Reference: Approval of the Brighton Memorial Parkway Renaming Resolution
To: Mayor Gregory Mills and Members of City Council
Through: Michael P. Martinez, City Manager
Prepared By: Travis Haines, Director of Parks & Recreation
Date Prepared: October 4, 2024
PURPOSE
Requesting City Council approval of a resolution approving the renaming of Brighton Memorial Parkway to Brighton Legacy Pathway.
BACKGROUND/HISTORY
We have received multiple requests to rename Brighton Memorial Parkway to better reflect the community members who have been honored along this path. Some felt that the name “Memorial” honors only those community members who have passed away, which is not the case as numerous community members who have been honored are still living. We received a petition to rename Brighton Memorial Parkway to Brighton Legacy Pathway.
FINANCIAL IMPACT
The purchase and installation of new sign faces for the monument signs on Southern St, Jessup St, and Bromley Ln to depict the new name will cost approximately $20,000. There is sufficient funding available for this project.
STAFF RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends approving the resolution to rename Brighton Memorial Parkway to Brighton Legacy Pathway.
