INTRODUCTION / PURPOSE
The purpose of this action is to have the City Council consider rescinding Resolution No. 05-52 and naming the new Municipal Service Center (MSC) after former Public Works Director Michael Woodruff.

BACKGROUND & ANALYSIS
Article II, Section 2.3 of the City of Brighton Charter gives the City of Brighton power over its real and personal property and authorizes the City to adopt ordinances and resolutions necessary or desirable for the general health, safety, and welfare of its citizens.

On May 3rd, 2005, the City Council of the City of Brighton exercised its power by adopting Resolution No. 05-52, a Resolution approving the "Amended Policy for Naming Public Amenities and Parks and Recreation facilities within the City of Brighton 2005". No updates to the amended policy have occurred since Resolution No. 05-52 was adopted, and the Citizen Committee that reviewed the naming nominations no longer exists and has no members at this time.

Staff is recommending that the City Council rescind Resolution No. 05-52 and its companion Policy for Naming Public Amenities and Parks and Recreation facilities within the City of Brighton 2005. Staff is recommending that City Council direct staff to adopt a new policy for naming public amenities, parks, and buildings. Additionally, the City Council has announced its intention to name the new Municipal Services Center after former Director Michael Woodruff to commemorate Mr. Woodruff's dedication to the City and his work in helping turn the idea of a new municipal services center into reality.
