PURPOSE
The City of Brighton (the "City") seeks to establish its first Sustainability Advisory Board to advise staff on sustainability programs and projects and to provide recommendations to the City Council. The Board will also assist staff with promoting sustainability best practices and educational opportunities throughout the community. By aligning with this common practice, the City will build out much needed sustainability infrastructure to support the City's Sustainability Coordinator in implementing the 2024 Sustainability Plan and advancing sustainability across the community to improve quality of life for all Brighton residents.

BACKGROUND
As stated in its annual Earth Day Proclamation, the City is committed to promoting and supporting positive actions that advance sustainability across the community. The City has upheld these commitments by developing and adopting strategic guiding documents, fostering regional partnerships, and leading award-winning projects. On June 4, 2024, the City adopted its first comprehensive Sustainability Plan, which includes programs and initiatives to be implemented across all City departments over the next five years. Additionally, the City's Sustainability Coordinator has fostered a culture of sustainability centered on collaboration and community engagement to address the specific needs of the community. As the Sustainability Cordinator continues to take on new projects throughout 2025-2026, finding meaningful ways to keep residents involved remains a top priority.
