PURPOSE
Requesting City Council approval for the amendment of 24-008645 Brighton Recreation Center Gym Expansion by amending the contract with FCI Constructors, Inc., and approving the resolution giving the City Manager, or designee, authority to sign the contract amendment. Per City Code Section 3-8-170, "All change orders or amendments shall be processed through the Finance Department. Department directors shall have authority to approve individual amendments or change orders up to the department director's aggregate signing authority for the total contract price. The City Manager shall have the authority to approve individual amendments or change orders, in the aggregate, up to the City Manager's signing authority or up to ten percent (10%) of the original contract amount, whichever is higher. All other amendments or change orders shall be approved by the City Council, as appropriate, based on the signing authority established in this Article.
BACKGROUND
The Brighton Recreation Center was built in 1993 and was expanded in 2005 on the southwest side of the building with the addition of childcare. Over the last 30 years, the community has outgrown the current gymnasium and the demand for more space has been apparent. Additionally, the Brighton Recreation Center has expanded programming over the years, but space for staff has not changed. Recreation Center management has been tasked to expand the gym by adding an auxiliary gym with an extended walking track and address the need for office space.
