PURPOSE

AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF BRIGHTON, COLORADO, AMENDING VARIOUS SECTIONS OF CHAPTER 13 OF THE BRIGHTON MUNICIPAL CODE REGARDING ACCESSORY DWELLING UNITS (ADU’S)

STRATEGIC FOCUS AREA

Recognizable and Well-Planned Community

BACKGROUND

The Community Development Department has presented City Council a proposed new Land Use Code to facilitate the approval of Accessory Dwelling Units (ADU).  In doing so, the various types of buildings on a property have been defined or the definition was further refined.  These changes mandated the updating and modification to sections associated with Utility service, those modifications are being proposed in this Ordinance.

Specifically, This Ordinance removes “carriage units” and replaces them with ADU’s.  The fee structure around ADU’s was also updated to allow ADU’s to use existing water and sanitary services given it is sized correctly.

FINANCIAL IMPACT

Any potential impact to City financials would be insignificant.

STAFF RECOMMENDATION

Approve this ordinance to be presented at the next City Council meeting.
