PURPOSE

The purpose of this staff report is to seek approval of a Resolution taking formal action to participate in the coordinated election with Adams County and Weld County on November 7, 2017.

BACKGROUND

It has been the practice of the City of Brighton to coordinate elections with Adams County and Weld County for many years. Section 1-7-116, C.R.S. notes that the Counties and City of Brighton may cooperate or contract with each other to provide any function or services lawfully authorized to each. The contract may provide for the sharing of cost. By coordinating with the Counties on elections, the County Clerk and Recorder acts as the primary election official and undertakes certain obligations for the election.  In addition, a coordinated election reduces the costs incurred by the City to conduct the election and saves the City a tremendous amount of money that it would have to spend if it conducted the election on its own. The election costs are shared by the County and the other participating jurisdictions within the County.
