PURPOSE

The Brighton Police Department is seeking approval form the Council to enter into an IGA with the City of Commerce City to form a Sexual Assault Task Force.

BACKGROUND

In January of 2017 the City of Commerce City applied for a grant to form a sexual assault task force with the City of Brighton through the Bureau of Justice Smart Policing Initiative.  Over 50 agencies applied for the grant and Commerce City was one of 7 Agencies awarded the grant.  The grant is for $699,721.

The IGA will allow the Cities of Brighton and Commerce City to form a multi-agency Sexual Assault Task force that will implement best practice in the area of sexual assault investigation and sex offender management.  The grant funding requires a significant research component to establish best practices and enhance service to victims.

 CONCLUSIONS

The Sexual Assault Task Force IGA allows both cities the ability to provide crime victims with quality service in accordance with the Victim Rights Amendment.

FINANCIAL IMPACT

The net impact on the 2018 budget will be $1526.40 in salary difference.
