PURPOSE
A Resolution of the City Council of the City of Brighton, Colorado Accepting the Conservation Easement for the Willow Bay Property located near 136th and Brighton Road in Favor of the City of Brighton
BACKGROUND
Adams County has purchase the property known as the Willow Bay Property located at 136th and Brighton Road. The property is annex in to the City. The property is 174 acres with a 105 acre Lake on the property. The intended use of the property is to remain as open space. Recreational uses will be determined as part of a master planning process to be undertaken next year. This property is the trail corridor for the Colorado Front Range Trail through Brighton.
The funding sources for the acquisition include an Adams County Open Space Grant and a grant from the Rocky Mountain Arsenal Natural Resources Damages Fund. Both of these funding sources require a Conservation Easement to be placed on the property. The Conservation easement protect the natural resources and open space values of the land. The Conservation Easement is held by either a non-profit land conservation agency or a public entity. Adams County has requested the City of Brighton hold and perform the Conservation Easement for the Willow Bay Property.
Adams County currently holds three Conservation Easement for the City of Brighton, The Anderson Property, the Eagle Preserve Property, and the Letterly Property.
The requirement of the City will be to tour the property once a year to document and provide a report on the condition of the property.
