PURPOSE
This report will provide summary information regarding the key proposed bills introduced at the Colorado 2020 legislative session. Staff requests guidance from City Council on which bills, if any, the Council desires to monitor or take a formal position of support or opposition.

BACKGROUND
During the legislative session each year, staff follow proposed pieces of state legislation that have a potential to impact how the City of Brighton provides critical services to the residents.
The City of Brighton is a member of the Colorado Municipal League (CML), whose primary mission is to advocate for matters that impact municipalities in Colorado. Both the City Council and staff participate in various committee's that CML hosts on a regular basis. From time to time, CML will reach out to its member municipalities for help in either supporting or opposing a piece of legislation. However, that activity does not preclude the City of Brighton from taking its own position on a proposed bill if the need arises. This occurs largely because CML represents all municipalities in Colorado and there may be instances where the interests of the City of Brighton may be slightly different than those from the larger CML membership.
