BACKGROUND

City Council has adopted a Resolution establishing a policy for Naming of Public Amenities and Park and Recreation Facilities.  The Policy includes a procedure for selecting Names for Recognition on the Memorial Parkway. The City Clerk has received a Petition requesting recognition of Dick and Mary Hodge for their service to the Brighton Community.  The Park and Recreation Advisory Board has reviewed the Park Naming Petition and determined it has met all the requirements for selecting a name for recognition on the Memorial Parkway as outlined in the Park Naming Policy.

At the Park and Recreation Advisory Board meeting on December 4, 2019, the Park and Recreation Advisory Board unanimously approved a motion to recommend to the City Council that a plaque be placed on the Memorial Parkway recognizing Dick and Mary Hodge for their service to the Brighton community.

Mary Hodge has served 16 year in the State legislature and 3 year as an Adams County Commissioner.  She has represented agriculture, local government, and Early Childhood Development concerns throughout her tenure in the legislature.

Dick Hodge is a local business man, Boy Scout leader and community leader.  He served 8 years on the Brighton City council, 2 year as Mayor Pro-Tem, Downtown Development Authority, Historic Preservation Commission, and key community member to bring the Boys and Girls Club to Brighton.

FINANCIAL IMPACT

The cost to place a plaque on the Memorial Parkway is Two Thousand Five Hundred ($2,500) Dollars and is included in the 2020 budget
