PURPOSE

An ordinance to lease space at 36 S. Main Street.

BACKGROUND

 

On April 20, 2021, the City Manager received direction from City Council to prepare and present a lease for formal consideration at a future council meeting for space at 36 S. Main Street. City Council desired to lease space to Main Street Creatives at a subsidized amount in order to allow the artist to remain in the building.

 

Section 17.3 of the Brighton City Charter states that City Council may not mortgage or encumber public utilities or permanent public buildings or real or personal property except by ordinance or majority vote of the electors at the option of the Council.”

 

FINANCIAL IMPACT

 

Lessee will pay $5.71 per square feet which is the same price paid by organization’s leasing space at Historic City Hall. The monthly lease payment is $2,111.27. The lease payment helps offset the cost to operate the building at Main Street.
