BACKGROUND/HISTORY

The City Council has identified the preservation of farmland in the south area of Brighton as a priority.  In 2016 the Brighton City Council and the Adams County Commissioners adopted the “District Plan” that identified multiple ways to preserve farmland in the south area of Brighton.  The Plan identified one of the main ways to preserve the farmland was for the City and County to acquire selected parcels of farmland.  To assist in the acquisition of these identified parcels of land the City would secure the assistance of a firm that specializes in acquiring land for conservation purposes.  The Conservation Fund was selected as the firm best meeting the evaluation criteria.

FINANCIAL IMPACT

Sufficient appropriation exists for the project.

STAFF RECOMMENDATION

Staff recommends that the City Council approve the request to extend contract 16M-004 to The Conservation Fund for an additional one (1) year term.
