Title: Opioid Settlement Allocation Discussion

City Manager’s Office

Reference:                      Opioid Settlement Allocation Discussion

As discussed in recent meetings, the City of Brighton stands to receive settlement funds from Colorado's recent settlements with Johnson & Johnson and the three drug distributors. As it stands, Brighton is estimated to receive $10,940.72 for Year 1 and the total opioid settlement funds over 18 years $97,288.31, directly from Colorado’s recent settlements with Johnson & Johnson and the three drug distributors. We have two options to utilize these funds which include either opting-in (receiving the funds directly) or opting-out (giving our funds to the regional effort). Council will need to choose one of the following options:

By choosing opt-in, we will retain the local share of opioid settlement funds. Participating local governments who retain their local government share must use funds for Approved Opioid Abatement Purposes. We must also report annually to the Colorado Opioid Abatement Council (COAC) about how the funds were spent.

By choosing to opt-out, our funds are redirected to the region(s) in which your local government is located. The Regional Opioid Abatement Councils will be responsible for requesting, managing, and reporting for the opioid settlement funds. In our case, the Rocky Mountain Partnership is spearheading efforts on behalf of Adams County.
