PURPOSE

To conduct the 2022 performance evaluation of City Attorney Alicia Calder?n, and if City Council chooses, set a new compensation rate.

BACKGROUND

City Attorney Alicia Calder?n was appointed by City Council on August 23, 2021. The City Council is tasked with conducting an annual performance evaluation process that is approved by the Council.

City Council did set a plan to conduct a performance evaluation process with the assistance of Human Resources Director Kevin Young. City Council members had an opportunity to complete a performance evaluation form that was sent confidentially to Director Young, who summarized the performance evaluation information.

If Council votes to retain him as City Attorney, Council may set a new compensation rate.

City Council met on September 20, 2022, in Executive Session with Director Young present to discuss and vote on City Attorney Alicia Calder?n's performance and compensation increase. City Council then met with City Attorney Alicia Calder?n to discuss her performance and compensation.

CRITERIA BY WHICH COUNCIL MUST CONSIDER THE ITEM

Process approved by City Council for the performance evaluation of the City Attorney on September 20, 2022.

FINANCIAL IMPACT

The approved budget for 2022 has sufficient funds to cover the increase in compensation. City Council will set compensation based on performance evaluation.


STAFF RECOMMENDATION

Staff finds that the process implemented by City Council was followed and is ready for Council vote.
